Gardening Lessons
10 tips for an organic garden
Casa Isho, Timișoara — March 28-May 11, 2024
This exhibition brings together 10 artists who are part of a new generation and to whom we offer an updated showcase. The aim is to highlight ways of creating and emphasizing issues of concern without over-politicizing them, each artist being like a gardener concerned with nurturing natural life, with artistic biodiversity, varying 'habitats' and regularly altering the soil of the work so that it appears as sustainable as possible. The first of the ideas that driven us concerns the notion of visibility. The exhibition is a transmission belt, an active, accelerating, dynamic device. It addresses both the public (by bringing something new to their attention) and the artist (by ensuring that visibility is not just a formality but a challenge that calls his or her work into question). As far as the selection of artists is concerned, singularity is a criterion, even more so as the structuring of the art world and its training courses tends to standardize practices. It is a paradox: in a globalized art world, where information, ideas and images circulate everywhere and are distorted instantaneously, the search for original and atypical universes, for sincere, original or vernacular practices, has become an imperative.
